Winding handle too weak

I have been using this tape for surveying. The end of the rewinding handle where the knob is attached broke off. The handle itself is metal but the end of the handle where the knob is attached is plastic. The knob is not attached to the metal but is attached to the plastic end which broke off.

Compounding the problem this handle is not available as a service or repair part

I have to disagree with the built like a tank review. It was too easy to break the handle's plastic end
